Prof. Dr. Thomas Scaria

Dr Thomas Scaria is an eminent academic administrator, educator and researcher, currently serving as Principal of St Xavier’s College, Thumba, Kerala. Drawing on an extensive background in higher education governance, he has been instrumental in driving institutional excellence and quality assurance, and in steering the implementation of transformative academic frameworks such as the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), positioning the college firmly within Kerala’s evolving higher education landscape.

Beyond his administrative leadership, Dr Scaria remains a dedicated scholar with a keen intellectual engagement in continental philosophy, literary criticism and social science theory, with particular focus on the works of leading contemporary theorists including Slavoj Žižek, Alain Badiou, Jacques Lacan and Jonathan Dollimore. An avid cultural critic, he extends this scholarly lens to film criticism and the study of cinema as a medium for social and philosophical exploration. As Principal, he continues to foster a vibrant research culture and academic innovation, bridging rigorous scholarship with progressive institutional growth.
