Dr. Varghese J

Dr Varghese Joseph is an accomplished academic and researcher in Media Communication, bringing over fifteen years of teaching experience across leading institutions, including St Xavier’s College, Thumba, Christ Nagar College, SRM University and Hindustan College of Arts & Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Bharathiyar University, with a thesis examining Kim Ki-duk’s films through the lens of semiotic narrative style, and is UGC-NET qualified in Mass Communication and Journalism.

His scholarly interests span film studies, journalism, visual communication, advertising and multimedia production, underpinned by sustained research contributions to international journals and conferences. Recognised with distinctions including the Faculty Excellence Award and a national-level Sulekha.com award for advertisement direction, Dr Joseph combines academic rigour with creative practice in filmmaking and documentary production, inspiring students to develop as incisive thinkers, skilled creators and confident leaders within an evolving media landscape.

• Edited an hour-long documentary for noted documentary filmmaker Jill Misquitta titled “God’s Love in Action”, documenting the work of the NGO Navjeevan in Mumbai, which cares for the discarded children of commercial sex workers in the red-light area of Kamathipura, 2007.
