Continuous Assessment & Internal Examinations
Internal assessment at St. Xavier's College, Thumba, is a formal component of the academic evaluation process, referred to as Continuous Assessment (CA) in postgraduate programmes and Internal Examinations within the undergraduate framework.
Postgraduate
For both the M.Sc. Physics and M.Com programmes, each course is evaluated out of a total of 100 marks, split between internal and external assessments:
| Component | Marks |
|---|---|
| Continuous Assessment (CA) | 25 marks per course |
| End Semester Assessment (ESA) | 75 marks per course |
| Total | 100 marks per course |
Undergraduate
Under the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), the following rules apply to internal evaluations:
Every semester, 15 days (3 weeks) are set aside specifically for examinations, which includes internal examinations, valuations, and related academic activities.
Conduct
Attendance at all examinations, including internals, is compulsory.
Students who miss examinations without prior permission from the Principal will face serious disciplinary action and fines.
Students present for internal examinations are officially granted attendance for that specific course for that day.
Any form of fraud or malpractice during assessments is considered a serious offense and may lead to disciplinary action.
Oversight
The results of internal assessments, along with attendance records and behavioral remarks, are recorded in progress reports.
These reports are formally distributed to parents and students during Class PTA meetings to ensure regular monitoring of academic performance.
Internal and university-level examinations are overseen by the Examination Committee, with Dr. Gifty Elsa Varghese serving as the Chief Superintendent and Dr. (Fr) Shibu Joseph as the FYUGP Coordinator.
