Training Excellent Researchers & Knowledge Workers

Research-Integrated Learning

Inquiry, critical thinking, and innovation woven into undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

St. Xavier's College, Thumba, places a significant emphasis on research, explicitly stating its objective to train students to be excellent researchers and knowledge workers. This focus is primarily integrated into the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), which offers a specific pathway for a Four-Year UG Degree (Honours with Research). To earn this degree, students must complete a total of 177 credits, which includes 12 credits dedicated to a mandatory research project or dissertation conducted in the eighth semester.

For a student to be eligible for the research pathway, they must achieve a CGPA of 7.5/10 (75%) or above after finishing their first six semesters. A relaxation of 0.5 in the CGPA is allowed for students belonging to SC/ST/OBC, differently-abled, and EWS categories. All research projects must be supervised by a faculty member who is either a university-approved research guide or qualified to be one. Research projects are also a standard component of postgraduate study, with both M.Sc. Physics and M.Com programmes requiring a project report in their final semester.
