Regulatory Alignment for Research & Academics
The Research section is primarily aligned with the Four-Year UG Degree (Honours with Research), detailing how institutional policies reflect UGC norms and guidelines.
Research Pathway
While the standard eligibility for the Honours with Research pathway requires a CGPA of 7.5/10 (or 75% marks) after six semesters, the college applies a relaxation of 0.5 score (bringing the requirement down to 7.0/10) for students belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), Differently Abled, and EWS categories. This policy is explicitly implemented as per UGC norms.
General admission to the research stream is conducted based on criteria notified by the University of Kerala, while strictly adhering to the guidelines and norms issued by the UGC and other relevant statutory bodies.
The university maintains a digital storage (DigiLocker) for academic credits, including those earned through research, using the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) facility provided by the UGC. The validity of these research-related credits is determined by university or UGC regulations, typically up to seven years.
Faculty Norms
The implementation of the Honours with Research degree is contingent upon meeting faculty standards that align with broader regulatory frameworks:
Students must complete a mandatory 12-credit research project in their VIII semester under the supervision of a faculty member who is a university-approved research guide.
For a college to offer this pathway, it must have a minimum of two permanent faculty members who are university-approved research guides. If a department falls below this requirement, it becomes ineligible to offer the research programme until qualified faculty are recruited.
The institution's Librarian oversees the Arnos Padiri Library, which provides the necessary research infrastructure, such as journals and digital resources, required for students in the Honours with Research stream. Additionally, the college enforces the UGC Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging (2009), noting that any violation can lead to the withholding of results or scholarships, which would impact a student's standing in the research pathway.
